Whether riding with a snaffle or hackamore, never allow a coil or coils to encircle your arm.

This wonderful trainer knows this horse and is making contact with him, but he is allowing the coils of his mecate to be around his arm rather than draped over it.

Although it is convenient, this is very dangerous. When a horse is startled, he can pull back or race off. If your arm is entangled, you can be burned or seriously injured. This is especially true for a child.

Make it a rule to never do or allow others to do this when handling horses.

BE SAFE RATHER THAN SORRY.
