Ordering Information

Most of the items we offer at California Classics today are “custom” items. This means that gear or other products are made to order based on our customers' requirements. Your input is important in this process.

If you are interested in rawhide, leather gear or personal items, unlike those stores that just retail most often foreign-made products, we invite you to visit with Aaron on the phone or by email. You are able to work directly with the artisan who makes your gear. You are supporting that artisan. This makes the legendary California vaquero style traditions possible to continue on for the future.

If a wild rag, a single wrap or custom length silk is desired, you know that Dorothy will be hand sewing (with a needle and thread, not a machine) your specific mascada in the traditional way. If need be, she will also do her best to repair it over the years for the cost of postage.

You can be assured that your order is not passed to a guy in a stockroom with no CA style background or someone in a foreign country using inferior materials or who has never even been on a horse. It is handled by those who have spent their lives and talents with horses and cattle in the Pacific Slope vaquero traditions honored and represented at California Classics.

Unlike today’s standard “cookie cutter” mass produced items, yours will be individually made - not just like everyone else’s. Each item will feature slight nuances. Artisans bring a rich history of experience, skill and talent handed down from one generation to the next the level of which is seldom seen today. Also, if you are interested in one of our selected retail items, then you will know that we have an ongoing relationship with the maker or the company.

Our pages show many examples of CC items we have made. These do not often represent items currently in stock. See our ever changing Pony Express Ready to Ship pages. We try not to duplicate exactly, but we do create similar items. Craftsmen prefer to have a degree of artistic license on projects. The photos are posted throughout our CC site to give you an idea of what can be done.

Don’t see what you had in mind? Contact us. We have more photos and ideas to share with you. Knowing a number of craftsmen, we are able to work with a particular artisan or send you to them directly. Working together to create or find something special is half of the fun!

Designs, materials, size, the time required to craft the item, the season of year and backlog will all have an impact on final cost and how long it takes to deliver your order. Not only does the complexity of the design determine how much time is required, the weather (for rawhide) has an impact, the availability of appropriate quality materials and fluctuations in leather and precious metal prices cause dramatic changes in the cost of materials, along wiith our current backlog of orders all help determine the time and cost of a product. This is why you will not see prices posted on many of our custom item pages. Call or email and ask for a current quote and we’ll be happy to help.

It will take time for us to create or to work with our master silversmiths (whether similar to an example shown or a brand new concept). Remember, we don't start making anything until you agree with the design, the quote and actually submit your order.

Please call or email us to discuss your unique design. Even if you are not sure of exactly what you want, we are always glad to work with you to produce that exclusive treat for yourself, a favorite horse or a special someone!
